DetailsThis little verdigris copper jar is only about two inches high. It fits in the palm of your hand. A perfect place for tiny secrets or to give a burst of color to a hidden corner. The distressed verdigris patina ranges from sea-green to aqua. The inside of the jar is a natural copper color. The whole piece is sealed with a museum-quality sealant and will not fade, chip, or peel. Three little feet on the bottom of the jar keep it stable (and adorable).
The jar was entirely handmade by me in my Connecticut studio--and when I say handmade, I mean that I started with a sheet of copper, cut it with a jeweler's saw, and gradually sculpted it into a jar shape using the ancient technique of hammer-raising, which involves multiple rounds of hammering and heating ("annealing") the piece to soften it for more hammering. (If you just keep hammering without annealing, metal will become brittle and break.) The lid is hammer-raised with a fitted inner ring.
